Playing Catch Up Again...

Usually when I"m on the computer it's to watch nail art videos on YouTube, so I haven't been very good at the whole posting and letting people know what we're doing thing. I take pictures though, so I guess that's better than nothing. Here's some pictures of our summer thus far.

We went to the zoo and rode the train

Riley went down the big slide in the playground
Obvioulsy the train was the highlight of the trip for Riley

Bridget was always good for a slimy kiss:)

Tim got to go to a calf branding, castrating, and vaccination camp with his young mens group. He actually liked it a lot. I was jealous, but knowing me I would probably get kicked in the face.
Yeah that's a bull testicle. Sick.
And on hot days we break out the pool, invite a friend over, and splash around in the freezing cold water.

 I love my girls:)

Probably will be doing this type of post for a while. it's just easier:) Happy Summer everybody!

Does Your Mate's Soul Match Yours?

Back while Tim was on his mission I dated around and dated a few other guys (which was my right) and one that I was hanging around with the most "dumped" me because I wasn't his "soul mate". When this young man told me that I wasn't his one and only, I had to hold in my laughter. Not because I wanted to cover up the pain of being dumped, but it was in fact to hide cynicism, that was bestowed on me by none other than my loving father. Growing up I never really believed that I had one true love that I was going to marry and my life was going to be great. When I was dumped for not being this guy's one true love I felt bad for him. What a lonely existence to spend your whole eternity looking for one person among millions? If I had a soul mate I'm pretty sure he would look a lot like Hugh Jackman and he'd be able to me feel like I don't weigh anything. Yeah I'm THAT shallow. Granted I did marry Tim, who is kind of the opposite of big and muscly. More tall and willowy... anyways. Tim and I dated for 4 years before Tim even left on his mission and we were pretty sure we were going to get married, not in the "One Day My Prince Will Come" kind of way but kind of the "Well, you're here, I'm here and I'm pretty sure we could enjoy each other naked, let's get hitched" kind of way. Anyways after this fool dumped me, which was a double whammy because this kid used THE PROPHET as an excuse not to date me anymore. THE PROPHET. Or A prophet, I can't remember. So when I read this talk from many years ago many years later, I had to laugh to myself and thank my lucky stars I didn't marry someone who really believed I was the one and only person they were meant to be with.  Because really, think about it? What if I died? What if THEY died? Would we be doomed for eternity to be alone or with someone who we know isn't our "soul mate"? How depressing would that be? Not only for us, but the "replacement" for our soul mate. I truly think that there are certain people that are meant to be in your life at certain times, due to the choices you make. In a marriage if you really giving all that you can and you're willing to compromise and work towards a single goal TOGETHER, than you can marry anybody and make it work. Here look, I drew a diagram of what a persons choices are like:

Keep in mind you're not marrying ALL of these men at once, that's more headache than you could handle. I'ts meant to show that at different times in your life you could marry any of  your choices and if you were willing to make it work and reach an eternal goal with him, than you can be happy. It's a very basic idea without all the what if's and whos whens wheres and althoughs. It's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it.
Of course you have to "LOVE" the person you marry, but I've learned that love is not immediate nor can it be turned on or off like a light. How you feel towards a persons actions, may not always be positive but your feelings towards that person doesn't change because we know that humans don't always make the best decisions. Have you ever had a argument with your spouse over something and no matter how hard you try you can't stay mad at them? Isn't that annoying? Not only that but when you first meet someone it's not always love at first sight. You usually have to get to know someone before you want to marry them (unless they are Hugh Jackman). When Tim and I first were starting to get to know each other I noticed he asked the SAME questions EVERY time we were on the phone with each other. "What kind of music do you like?" "What did you do today?" "What did you wear today?" (Yeah, he would ask me that. Now that I look back on it, it's a little weird.;)) He asked me these questions EVERY DAY. I thought at first it was because he had a really bad memory or he only had those few conversation topics but as I got to know his better, I knew what I could get him talking about. (Music was always a big one with him.) Then, I noticed I was giggling more (like a giddy little girl, because that's what I was) and I was actually looking forward to those questions because I would search for things in those topics that we could talk about. I think that is one of the chuckles God gets out of watching us interact with each other. It's a learning and growing process. We have to learn to expand our interests because if our phone conversations were left up to me, there wouldn't be many phone calls.  So in a very long and round about way I guess I'm trying to say that I don't believe in a soul mate, (not only because A PROPHET has said so). But I do believe in a Happily Ever After. It might not always be perfect but the perfect times out weigh the... not perfect times? And when you have those perfect days you can know what you're striving for. I know what I'm striving for... to not be a woman in a blazer. (Only Mom and Dorthy know what I'm talking about.) I guess I don't want a perfect marriage. Tim would probably get in my way from helping me all the time. I want a normal, loving marriage that has bumps and lumps(I have many lumps) and is always changing, just to keep me on my toes.:) What about you? Do you believe in a soul mate? Did you find it?

General Conference April 2012/ Easter 2012

We got to go down to the farm for this spring's General Conference. YAY! I get ansty when I'm not able to go down that often. What made it better was that it wasn't too long ago when I took Riley and Bridget down when we went with Grandma. But anyways, we took the girls down on Saturday during the first session, and Riley was so excited all day she was jabbering about going to Grandma and Grandpa Great's house. When we got there, she wasn't too shy which made me happy and Bridget just remembered how much attention she got there for everything she did so of course she was happy about being there. Grandpa Great, Grandpa and Sarah were out moving pipe when we got there, but all Riley wanted to do was go ride the horses. She was going around the house telling anyone and everyone who would listen how much she wanted to go ride the horses. So when Grandpa came back inside and she was told she would have to ask Grandpa Great to go ride horses, she went right over and asked. I was worried because Grandpa Great was tired and about six months ago we took Riley to Thanksgiving Point and Grandma Julie bought her a ticket to ride the little ponies tied to the hot walker. She was so excited until we got up close and she FREAKED OUT. And not in a good way, she wouldn't even go in the pen where they kept the horses. So needless to say I was worried Grandpa Great would go to all that work for Riley to freak out and end up sitting in the back of the truck the whole time. But she asked him and his eyes perked up and he smiled. "You sure can. Come on, let's go." Even though he was really tired and he still had a lot of work to do, he was willing to indulge my children. And this was the payoff.

YAY! She rode and Bridget rode and they LOVED it! That's all they could talk about for the week after. She's still talking about it. This weekend was Easter weekend and we got the chance to remember and celebrate the resurrection of our Savior and think about what he did for us. We also get to take pictures of our kids in their cute clothes looking for brightly colored eggs in the yard.:)

My Bridgee. She's gonna be a heart breaker.

The Cousin's on the Schmidt side
Coloring eggs... Bridget wanted very badly to try

My Riley... I have to sneak pictures of her so she won't pull weird faces
 Kenzer

I love the look on Bridget's face:)

Conner. I couldn't get good one's of Landon... He moves too fast.:) And if you don't go "AWWWWWW!" over this next picture, you're a robot.

My favorite picture by far.:)

Nap Time is a Magic Time.

There is a moment in my home when everything works, all my projects are going as planned, and it's serenely quiet...
 Where everyone relaxes...
And finds a nice comfy spot... (ignore how disgusting my carpet is please)
And drift off into a magical dream filled sleep...

And when that time is over...
Our own special piece of heaven is present.
Because we've all had our naps and we're happy:)

Not Sure What to Post...

I have something that I really need to say out in the open , but I think I need to resolve the mysteries behind it first. Other than that I'm pleased to announce Pippin is an idiot, but we love her anyway. She does really well with the potty training then out of no where she'll start peeing everywhere again. Riley is kinda doing the same thing and what is it with kids and waiting until the VERY LAST SECOND to go to the bathroom? Serioulsy! She dances around for 5 minutes straight while I'm trying to coax her into the bathroom then when she finally comes to sit on the toilet she's practically peeing down her leg. Bridget is quickly learning how to talk and we've discovered she's a bit of a scrapper and a bully. If someone does something she doesn't like she'll push and glare at you from under her eyebrows. While it is cute, I'll have to nip that in the bud, I can't have her shoving people just because they do something she doesn't like. We have several things going on at the house, Tim has got the basement all sheet rocked and now we just need to mud and tape and sand and paint it all. Then my nail room will be DONE!!!! Hallelujah!! Tim has seeded the lawn and we've got several plans for flowers in the front yard. I want to do flowers in the back yard too, but we'll have to wait on that. And Justin comes home in August and I'm super stoked about that. As of right now I have eaten half a bag of baby carrots. And I don't mean the little bags. Anyway, our Realtor just came and brought us a 50$ gift card for Texas Roadhouse, which is really nice. Is it weird I'm glad we have bought a home but I'm sad we're not looking to buy anymore because we won't get to work with them anymore? They were super awesome guys and the whole process went so well. Which brings me to the fact that Rory and Dorthy got an offer accepted on a home out in Magna. It's tiny, but I think it'll be good for them, and I'm really excited for them. Now I need to go get a crying baby out of room before I just get a death stare.

Sew Crafty...:)

Lately I've been sick so I've been pretty worthless at getting things done around the house. But, while I was sick I didn't actually waste all my time sitting around. I was sewing. One night Tim and I climbed into be d and noticed there was a hole in our fitted sheet. These sheets had been through four years of marriage, two kids, and two dogs. I think they did pretty good for all the traffic we put them through. but I didn't want to throw them away. so, I got thinking.... My mom uses old stuff like that for cleaning rags after she's washed them one last time. But it seemed such a waste to tear up a mostly good king sized fitted sheet. So I thought, What could I make with the fabric that would use most of it. Then I thought about stuff I've been meaning to get for myself or my bed. Ta Da! Pillowcases! It was perfect. I've been meaning to get some new ones but why should I BUY new ones for 14 bucks a pair ( I only have king sized pillows, that's another story)  when I can make new ones for no cost at all? So I flipped of my existent pillowcases inside out, and made a little pattern for myself to make some new pillowcases. I now have two new pillowcases. Then, I think it was on the same day actually I ripped an old pair of capri shorts around the back of the leg because my thighs rub together and the insides of the legs wear out quick. Nasty yes, but hey, I'm working on it. I didn't want to throw them away because again I still saw them as perfectly good shorts. Although I didn't really want to patch them to wear them again. SO I got thinking. Maybe I could make Riley some shorts? Nah. Then it hit me.  I'll make Riley a cute denim skirt! So I did. I like to pride myself in the fact that I don't ever use a pattern for anything when I sew. And sometimes it works out , like it did for Riley's skirt, but other times... not so much like for Riley's Rapunzel dress. I cut out the existing rectangles of fabric sewed them together,  added a little elastic waist and added some button embellishments and BOOM I made a skirt.
Isn't it cute?! Tim helped her pose for the picture and everything. :) It's getting really fun to make Riley stuff because she's willing to let me do fittings and try on stuff so I can see if it'll fit.I also made some Easter dresses for the girls out of some  pre-shirred fabric from WalMart Riley HAD to HAVE because it's Dora.
I know they're aDORAble. He He Get it? Never mind. The kids are super cute if I do say so myself and the fact that they were both smiling and looking in the right direction when I took this picture makes me even more excited.:) I want to make Riley some jumper dresses out of some old tops that I have in my closet that I'll never be able to fit into again, so I'll keep the blog updated for those.  My Grandma also has some shirts she wants to give to me to "Repurpose"  which I am more than willing to do. that way I can make some sleeved tops to go under the jumper dresses or just to wear with jeans. I also saw a thing on pintrest on how to make leather shoes for kids out of an old purse!! What a cute idea right?!!! Deconstructing and reconstructing is so much fun for me. What would be really fun if I had a dress form that was my size double so I could make things for myself. :) Oh well littler things are easier to sew. :)
